“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, ESV) The Word of God is a light for us to follow as we make our way through the day. Our days on earth are filled with darkness, obstacles, and dangers. Without a lamp, we are quickly off course and headed for trouble. Lamps only work when you use them. God has given us his Word as a light but, like a candle, it only works if you light it. Until we light the candle, we are still in the dark. God’s Word must be ‘lit’ also; the ‘candle’ of God’s Word is lit when we open and read and allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate our understanding. The Holy Spirit is our Guide. If our Bibles are collecting dust, they are of no use or benefit. Put the dusty Bible into the hands of one seeking to follow Christ, instantly it becomes is a very powerful light, both direction and protection; it both guides and warns us of dangers along the trails of life. God’s Word will be a lamp to our feet today if it is opened and read. Otherwise, we remain in the dark and headed for a fall. Light up your path today with the living and active Word of God. The Bible is a love letter from God to you and me. Imagine the heartbreak of the sender of this greatest love letter of all time if we don’t even open it and read of God’s great love! Read God’s love letter today and he will light your way. Amen.
