““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,” (Matthew 6:19, ESV) What will it help you in your ultimate goal in life to have your life focused on stuff. There will be no time in the night when your stuff will give you peace – truth is when you look around at all you have the more it starts to bug you and worry you about ‘how do I take care of all this’, ‘What can I do to make sure I don’t lose my stuff’, ‘Is my stuff better / bigger than my neighbor’s stuff…?’ The more things we have the more problems we have, the more problems we have the more worry we do, the more worry we have the further from God we drift.
DO NOT LAY UP TREASURES ON EARTH – don’t count on things that are temporary, things that can rust, or be eaten by moths to keep you company through a long night or even a short day. Oh, all think ‘man if I could just have a so and so, everything in life would be just right.’ It never is. The only ‘just right’ we have is the perfect and true ‘just right’ – his name is Jesus! Amen
