O Lord, as I lay down to rest on this the last evening of the year, it is with peace and joy that I do so knowing that nothing in all creation can separate me from your love in Christ Jesus – knowing that you have given me your Word to assure me that I HAVE eternal life – that with God for me, who can be against me – that the battle is not mine but yours and you have won the battle and the ‘war’ and in you I find my Shelter from the storm both now and forever. So, Lord, as I enter this new year, may I do so putting my hand in yours and living with the assurance that as I rest in you, I rest in the promises that you have made that you will never leave me nor forsake me and that whatever this coming year holds you will work it out for good because, by your grace, I love you and I am called according to your purpose in Jesus’ name. Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me bless and honor and praise your holy name tonight and all the nights of time and all the bright days of eternity in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
