Author / setting: Traditionally Moses. Genesis moves from the beginnings of the world (chs. 1–11) to the patriarchal family of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (chs. 12–50).
Purpose: To show the sovereign Creator, humanity’s fall into sin, God’s judgment and grace, and the covenant promises through which He advances His redemptive purpose.
