Going the extra mile is not ‘extra’ just basic Christianity

Matthew 5:41-42 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.  The world around us would respond with an attack of words or worse. Jesus tells us to do more than is expected (or demanded) of us – what Christ did (and he is always and ever our example to follow) was go way beyond what the world would do. We complain sometimes about having to give – think on this truth, Jesus gave his life for me / you while we were yet sinners (way beyond unworthy) but he yet gave his holy self for my sinful self – how can I possibly claim his name while refusing to help others?  We must follow – with joy and peace – the lead and example of Jesus in all things. Not just with our feet but especially in our heart, in other words with willingness. Amen
