“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,” (Philippians 1:27, ESV) First, our true value is found in Christ himself. The one who has saved us is the one in whom we find value and purpose and peace and power. Second, as born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ we must set this super high standard as our daily goal: “Lord, let me live today in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Third, the picture of such a life is one who is standing firm. Standing firm on the foundation that is Christ Jesus. Not resting on ‘personal achievement’. Standing firm on the finished work of Christ as the foundation for all righteousness and the foundation of all of life. Standing firm in one spirit as the Body of Christ and not as ‘me’ a follower of Christ but us, the whole Body woven together and inseparable in Christ and inseparable from Christ. Fourth, all with one mind as we strive (push) forward side by side with all other believers for the faith of the Gospel – fully trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
