“Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” (Romans 12:13, ESV) What do you have that did not pass through the hand of God before you received it? Yes, nothing because it is God himself who has provided all that we need. When God says “Contribute” he is telling us to follow Jesus. What has Jesus contributed – but life itself – in him we live and move and have our being and apart from him we can do nothing. What possible reason would we ever have for not giving freely to the needs of others – we who have received and are receiving everything needed for life from a gracious and giving Lord. Lord, help me / each of us to open wide our hands to share with others the blessings you have poured into our lives. Amen.
