““Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1, ESV) It would pain me to know how many times I have been guilty of this and so when I say – just don’t do it that is bought experience. Doing good is fun, it is a blessing, it truly shows us giving is more blessed than receiving – BUT – when we let that rascal pride sneak in and we just feel we have to ‘trot our good works out for everyone to see’ we are dishonoring God and we steal our own joy. The joy of being obedient to God and seeing that obedience reflected in true help for others loses all its attraction when the devil pride jumps in. Oh, it feels good for few minutes to ‘bask’ in the glow of the praise of people, but it is a lie, and it is a snake to steal all the goodness from us. Just don’t do it – ever. Do what God says and let God be our blessing – our obedience to him is our true joy and reward. Amen.
