“But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” (Matthew 5:32, ESV) God says and the two shall become one. What God has made one we are not to interfere with or tear apart. This is an area that I have failed miserably with in the past. I can tell you that the weight of those failures is never quite gone (yes, God forgives my sin) because there is the family that is no longer together and all that flows from that.
It is not because of my pain that we must not divorce. It is because God has said it and we must honor it. What He joins together, do not separate, or tear down. The family unit represents the union of Jesus and the Body of Christ and so it is not just the family unit that is destroyed but we also bring into disrepute and question the union we have in Christ when we fail to honor God’s command in marriage.
SO HERE IS GOD’S ANSWER
“He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”” (Matthew 19:4–6, ESV) AMEN
